Welcome to the Thunder Bay Geology and Lapidary Club. A vibrant community of people primarily interested in the geology of Northwestern Ontario through activities including meetings, presentations, field trips, lapidary, wire-wrapping and soapstone carving classes.


To enjoy and advocate for Geology and Lapidary awareness and activities focused in Northwestern Ontario.


  • To grow and maintain an open and community led Geology and Lapidary focused club that provides leadership, learning and enjoyment by all members and to the public.

  • To host Meetings, Talks and Trips and develops strong partnerships with allied groups or events.

  • To develop as a non-profit incorporated entity that can obtain insurance and secure a club location for club activities.

The Thunder Bay Geology and Lapidary Club meets on the 2nd or 3rd Monday of every month at the Thunder Bay Public Library, Waverley Branch Auditorium from 6pm to 7:45pm. Note that meetings are not held from June to August as events and field trips are scheduled then so check the Events Calendar for accurate meeting and upcoming events planned over the year. In the winter months, classes are held for members to learn lapidary skills such as wire-wrapping or stone carving.

Membership Info

Our general meetings, talks and mining day events are free and open to the public.
To attend classes, field trips or to work events members must be in good standing and be paid up and sign an insurance waiver.

The cost of an annual membership, payable via mail or at any general meeting is:

  • Individual: $20 each calendar year

  • Family: $30 each calendar year
