For members, the following Q+A provides answers to the most popular questions we are asked by the public..
What is the purpose of the club?
The club seeks to educate and have fun by exploring, explaining and enjoying the rich geological resources of Northwestern Ontario. We are able to help and instruct those interested in geology, rock collecting and lapidary work. Lapidary work can involve cutting, shaping and polishing rock for specimens, carving or into jewellery.
What activities do you do ?
We hold monthly meetings for club business, rock identification and geology education and awareness. Annually we wind up in Dec with a social gathering. During the summer we host a number of field trips to our local amethyst mines, Kakabeka Falls and other mines or geologically interesting sites.
What are the long term goals of the club?
The longer term goals of the club is to establish the club as a non-profit corporation in Ontario. This would allow us to seek funding and eventually have a place to meet, work and use lapidary equipment. We would also like to build relationships with other geology clubs, vendors. We would like to expand our field trips to include further or overnight trips across Northwestern Ontario and plan trips to larger Rock N' Gem shows such as Bancroft, Ontario.
